Fan Links, also known as Smart Links are one of the most valuable features any artist can have. They make everything run much smoother and cut your work load down by a serious amount. Both you and your fans have everything you need under one umbrella. Saving you both a job of searching for your tracks across multiple stores.
What is a Fan Link?
A Fan Link is a digital housing system for all of your store links and social media accounts. It’s important to note, they are also known as Smart Links. Both are exactly the same thing and work in the same way. All of your store links are stored under just one URL. Meaning, if you or your fans want to access a certain store to listen to your music, it will be accessible through your Fan Link.
Your URL can be personalised which will help your link stand out against others. You may choose to name it after the release housed within it. This will be catchy and easy for your fans to remember. It also helps with brand consistency. Every store where your release is available can be placed under the same Fan Link. You can also add your social media accounts under the same URL. This way, your fans have access to everything they could need, at just the click of a button.
How to create a Fan Link
Creating a Fan Link is a really easy process. Firstly you need to head over to PUSH.fm and create an account. To do this, simply click the sign-up button in the top right corner. Fill in your details and you should shortly receive an email from us confirming your account is ready to go. If you do ever stumble across issues with this, drop us an email at [email protected], and we’ll be happy to help you.
Right, once you’ve got an account with us, you can start creating your Fan Links.
Click on the pink button in the middle that says Create Fan Link
As you can see here, you’ll be asked to place a stream source into your link. This is simply a store URL for your release. For example, you may place your Spotify link for this particular track. It will help the automatic link finder do its job of finding your music across other platforms.
A lot of the details will be filled in for you based off what is found through your URL. It’s picked up the release artwork, which you can change if you would rather your URL have a different piece of artwork. Maybe you’ve done a release promo shoot and want to add an image from that. It’s completely up to you. It is important to note that the image used will determine the background of your Fan Link.
Add a description if you wish and change the title of the link if you want to.
The next step is to choose your stores. You might have your release on all stores possible through your distributor but only want a select few available through your Fan Link. We would advise adding everything into your link so that it is all in one place.
This is where you add in your social media platforms. At the bottom of the page, underneath all of your store links, there’s the option to add your own links. Here you can add any stores that haven’t automatically been picked up, along with your social media accounts.
The next step is to review your Fan Link and then launch it! Send it out there to be promoted across the big world web. That’s how easy it is to create one for yourself. With our free plan, you get up to 30 Fan Link Campaigns. Completely catch free!
How much do they cost?
This was briefly touched upon, but let’s break it down properly.
There are two types of plans here at PUSH. A free plan which is exactly that, free. You will have 30 Fan Links, with no limits. All stores and platforms can be added and there is nothing preventing you from updating them at a later stage. We’ll provide you with 1 Pre-save Campaign and 10 Content Unlocks. It’s a great way to try out Fan Links and discover what PUSH can offer you.
Alternatively, if you want to get more than the basic plan offers, you can upgrade to our premium plan. It’s just £4.99/mo which is extremely affordable compared to many of our competitors. This gives you unlimited access to all the features. If you’ve tried the basic plan and want to level up, the premium plan is for you.
Why should you use Fan Links?
To sum it up quickly, they make life so much easier. Once you’ve made one, that’s all you need to share across your social media platforms. Instead of sharing every store link you have across social media, you can share one URL and your fans can find their preferred store through it. It saves you so much time. You don’t have to constantly seek out specific stores depending on what your fans are requesting. They can do this for themselves.
Also, you can place all of your social media accounts into this Fan Link, so you don’t have to spend time on Instagram, promoting your Twitter account for example. Many platforms, like Instagram only allow one link within your bio. How do you then choose just one store link to promote? Surely if you’re placing a Spotify link within your bio, all your fans that use Apple Music will wonder where the link to their preferred store is.
Share your content far and wide with just a single URL. It saves you time. It saves your fans time searching for the right link. Everyone’s a winner. Being able to personalise your URL and change your Fan Link to match your artist brand, will strengthen the overall look of your artist image.
Who can use a PUSH.fm Fan Link?
In short, the answer is anyone. If you have something that you need a Fan Link for, sign yourself up. We offer Fan Links to any artist, label or content creator. You might have an event on which you want to set a Fan Link up for. Under the URL named after the event, you could have a link to your social media accounts where you’re promoting what’s going on. There also could be a link to buy tickets and even a website link to the people collaborating with you to put on this event. Perhaps you want to share the artists, food providers and other entertainers that will be there. You can do this to increase interest before the big event.
Here’s an example of an event Fan Link below
Typically, Fan Links are used heavily by music artists. This is because they have many stores they want to promote. However, they can be used by anyone. Small independent businesses can use Fan Links to promote their stores. You could add your social media accounts where potential customers can see your work and then a store link, so they can make a purchase. Fan Links can be used by anyone, for anything.
Where should you share your Fan Links?
Absolutely everywhere. Ok, well everywhere digital at least… Maybe hold off shouting your Fan Link URL in the supermarket. Unless that’s your kind of fun. But, when it comes to online, you need to share it as much as you can. Post it across all of your social media accounts. Create stories on Instagram dropping your link in, along with your music as a sticker if you’ve sent your release to Instagram as a store.
Put your Fan Link into every bio you have. Your Twitter, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, whatever you have, put your links there. It acts as a great promotional tool because it’s easily accessible and holds all the information your followers need. You can share your links and get your followers to do the same. Interacting with your fans is a great way of increasing support. It gives back to them and also helps you out because they’re more likely to continue to share your work.
You could even add your Fan Links into promotional emails. Anything that involves your release should also involve your Fan Link. Obviously you don’t want to come across as spamming people but utilise your links and share them everywhere you can. The more it’s shared, the more likely it will be heard.
Why choose PUSH.fm?
Here at PUSH, we’re here to push your work further. Really bad pun there, sorry. It’s true though, we just want to see you get the most out of your work. We understand how hard it can be for independent artists starting out in the world of music. This can be a daunting and very expensive place. Many companies will sell you the dream, but that usually comes with a cost. We’re aware typically if something sounds too good to be true, then it is. However, this isn’t the case with PUSH.
Some of our competitors don’t offer a free plan, or if they do, they are extremely limited. Our aim is to give you the tools to be able to market yourself independently. Hopefully making this process a lot easier along the way. We offer a great selection of tools at little to no cost. This means you can spend your money and time on other things to help your career. You get to spend more on creating the sounds rather than the promotion. Promoting your work is supposed to be the easy bit. After the long process of creating and developing your work, finally you have something live on stores. That’s when we step in to help you share this easily. You’re welcome.
There’s no catch or hidden agenda. If you don’t like the products you can remove them. We offer the flexibility of archiving your links. That way if you’re running out of storage and want to add something new, you can simply hide away an older release. Or perhaps you want to stop people having access to the links for a brief period of time. The choice is yours, and we aim to allow you full control over everything within your PUSH account.
Along with this, we’re also updating our site constantly and taking your feedback on board. We are always developing new ideas and features to add onto our already available Fan Links service. So, keep your eyes peeled because if anything big happens, we’ll be posting it all over this blog. Oh, and our social media accounts too, so if you’re not following us there…
A must-have for all artists
What’s stopping you? The benefits are great. You’ll have more time to focus on your next release. Also with our premium version, you get in-depth statistics, so you can see exactly how your Fan Link is performing. This means you’ll be even better prepared when you go to make any future ones. Checking over previous work is always key to progress. You’ll see areas of improvement. Seeing what works and what doesn’t will make your life so much easier. Trust us.
That’s pretty much Fan Links all rolled up into one, heavy, but handy blog article. Feel free to reach out to us via email or any of our social channels if there’s anything you need help with. As for the Fan Link creating process, it should be super easy. Make them your own and change things up to suit you. With the flexibility they offer, they’re a really useful tool to have. They’ll make marketing your music a much smoother process. Just remember to be prepared when creating it. Also, it’s important to note, PUSH do not provide your links. These must either be found yourself or through your label/distributor. Leave yourself enough time to promote your work and ensure your Fan Links are ready to go.
