As an independent artist, it can be difficult gaining a following. Asking people to stream your music is one thing, but you need to capture them to ensure you continue to get streams. People don’t want to feel forced into engaging with your content. You need to ensure you get the right balance in order to watch your stream numbers rise.
Here are a few ways we’d recommend getting your streams to increase organically
Set up a Pre-save campaign, so your fans automatically have your release saved when it drops! They can save it on multiple stores, and it will appear in their library on release day. This is great for you because you can encourage people to save it before it goes live. This means you’re guaranteed listeners on release day.
Fan Links are sharable URLs that have all of your links in one place. Your followers don’t need to search the internet to find each of your links to stream. They can simply follow one link and have all the available stores at the click of a button.
They’re completely customisable, so they can look exactly how you want. You can add your own artist touch and make them fit in perfectly with your branding.
Encourage people to interact with you for an added bonus. We know it can be difficult to gain new followers and listeners, so that’s why we offer Content Unlocks. You can reward those who complete certain actions by giving them a gift. This could be a downloadable audio file or a secret link. It’s your choice which actions and how many they must complete to get their hands on the prize!
Be social! Interact with people, share their work, and they’re more likely to share yours. Talk to others on the platforms, you can discuss your common interest of music or give each other advice. Social media is unavoidable, and making friends across the platforms will be beneficial to all of your future work. Share your work on their as much as possible. Take note of what times work best for you when posting. You’ll find some days and times are more popular with your audience than others. Use these apps in the lead up to your release to hype your music. Once your release is live, continue to spread the message and get people listening!
You can link your Pre-save to your social media platforms. Add them to your bios and share them everywhere you can.
Gigs, gigs, gigs
Perform live, play your music for people. The best way to hear music, is live, in person. Give that to your fans and more will join. I’ve lost count of how many artists I’ve started following because I’ve heard them play and needed to hear more. Get together with other artists and plan something. It doesn’t have to cost the earth and be anything huge. Just get your music out there!
Pitch your music to various music blogs, Again, this doesn’t have to be the best known ones that everyone’s using. Of course, there’s no harm at all in reaching for the stars and sending your music across to them. Just don’t be disheartened if your music doesn’t get selected, they have a lot to go through. Try reaching out to smaller music blogs and asking them if they need a feature. The worst they can say is no, but if you don’t ask, you might never know. Remember, all the publicity you can get will boost your streams.
There are so many ways you can get your music out there. This is only a handful. We want to see your music perform and for as many people as possible to have a listen. The more your music is out in the world, the more listeners you’ll gain. Promote yourself. If you don’t believe in yourself, you can’t expect others to. Unfortunately, listeners don’t just come your way overnight, you might need to work for them. Once you’ve captured your audience though, you can continue with their help to push your tracks. Use the features we offer here at PUSH.fm to create campaigns people can’t ignore. These are an easy thing to share across platforms to encourage people to engage with your content.
