Spotify’s countdown pages – boosting album releases for artists

Spotify have added a feature which allows artists and their fans to count down to their next release. This will in turn encourage listeners to Pre-save the new track(s). Allowing them to listen on release day.

Building anticipation before an album release is crucial for success in today’s music landscape. Gaining momentum across multiple platforms can be exhausting for artists. Spotify for Artists provides powerful tools to maximize a release’s potential, reach a global audience, and engage with fans. Now, a new feature has been added to the mix.

Spotify recently expanded its countdown pages feature to all eligible artists. This ultimate prerelease destination allows fans to Pre-save albums, preview track lists, watch clips, purchase merch, and see a countdown to the release—all within Spotify. Artists with at least 5,000 active listeners in the last 28 days can create these pages to build hype and drive streams.

Countdown pages integrate seamlessly into Spotify, appearing in artist profiles, Now Playing views, Search, and Home. When an album drops, Spotify sends a push notification to Pre-savers and adds the album to their libraries. This will encourage listeners to engage with the song. They can stream it and share it with their friends once it’s in their library.

Sam Duboff, Global Head of Spotify for Artists, Marketing & Policy at Spotify, emphasised the importance of the lead-up to an album’s release. Spotify aims to help artists build momentum and elevate their albums through this feature. It can be difficult for many users to find their place in the music world. Helping them grow should be a priority of Spotify.

Artists like Taylor Swift, Anitta, KAYTRANADA, Billie Eilish, Peso Pluma, Dua Lipa, Khruangbin, Charli XCX, Maggie Rogers, Whethan, Clairo, John Summit, and many others have used Countdown Pages with significant results. For instance, Taylor Swift’s “THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT” became the most Pre-saved album Countdown Page in Spotify history.

Benefits of countdown pages

1. Increased Pre-saves:
Over 80% of Pre-saves happen the week an album is announced and the week leading up to its release. Artists can share Countdown Pages on social media to boost Pre-saves.

2. Increased streams:
Nearly 70% of users who Pre-save an album stream it in the week following its release. Artists can reveal additional details about their albums to keep fans engaged.

3. Enhanced Engagement:
Artists who upload Clips to their countdown pages see twice as many Pre-saves as those who don’t. Clips can include studio footage, album trailers, and more.

Spotify continues to invest in tools designed to amplify release moments and help artists build their fan bases. The recently launched New Release Guide offers a comprehensive resource for artists to promote their new music using features like countdown pages, Clips, Canvas, Campaign Kit, and more. Grow with Spotify’s new artist features.
