A new editing app will launch soon called Edits. Owned by Instagram, this platform will allow users to edit their images for free before uploading them to the social channel.
Back in March, Instagram was supposed to release their new photo editing app, but this hasn’t happened. However, it seems the project has just been delayed slightly because Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, has assured the public it will be launching soon.
CapCut grew in popularity extremely quickly. It allows users to edit and create TikTok videos quickly and easily. Borrowing templates and finding inspiration on the platform, to sync up with songs and photos to create a relatable video.
It’s free to use for the most part, however, certain sounds or templates will come at a cost. However, TikTok creators found CapCut to be such an asset, making the video creation process so much quicker. Instagram wants a taste of this success.
They’re working on Edits, which will be a similar concept to CapCut, only with the aim of posting to Instagram rather than TikTok. Currently, it is in beta mode and only a handful of selected creators are able to test it out. Soon, the wider public will have access.
Mosseri has spoken about how there may be potential costs that arise in the future, due to things like AI features costing. Instagram will need to cover these costs somehow, and it’s likely with more advanced features a cost will be involved.
However, for now, the hope is, the platform can be completely free. Mosseri has stressed the importance of Edits being an app everyone can use. There are so many apps that are kept behind a paywall, meaning only creators who earn enough can justify the cost.
After all, if you’re someone posting to socials for the fun of it and are earning little to nothing, you’re probably not going to want to pay to use an editing app. Features included within Edits are things like AI generated backgrounds and still image animation.
