Instagram subscriptions allow content creators to monetise by offering exclusive access to their engaged followers.
Instagram subscriptions allow content creators to earn money from their most loyal followers. Creators can share exclusive content and offer benefits for those who choose to pay the monthly fee and subscribe to their account.
Followers have the ability to subscribe through an in-app purchase on their mobile devices, and these subscriptions can then be managed through the Instagram app. It’s important to be aware, subscribing to Facebook pages is different.
Despite Meta owning both Instagram and Facebook, it’s all about money. So, you can subscribe to your favourite influencer’s Instagram, but this won’t carry across to Facebook too. There are many types of exclusive content options.
What content is shared in Instagram Subscriptions?
Creators could share; lives, stories, badges, posts, videos and more. The list continues to grow. Only those who pay the set fee will be able to see this content from their favourite Instagram creator. As a creator, you can set up subscriptions at any point.
Once you’ve enabled this feature, your followers will receive a notification, and they can decide whether they want to subscribe. If they sign up, your Instagram account will appear under a Subscriptions tab within the Followers and Following page.
Your subscribers will stand out from the rest because they will have a badge by their name. It will appear under every comment, and DM. Followers of yours who haven’t subscribed will also see the badge, and if they click on it, it will prompt them to subscribe.
If a creator shares a Subscriber only story, it will be pushed to the front of the queue and your subscribers will see that story before any others you share. Only those who meet Instagram’s criteria will be able to create a subscription option.
How to qualify for Instagram’s Subscription
To qualify, you must meet Instagram’s Partner Monetisation Policies and stay in line with the Community Standards and Content Monetisation Policies. It’s important to be aware, music isn’t typically available for subscriber-only content.
Despite being able to use popular tracks on your normal content, if it’s going to earn you money, you will only be able to use music from Meta’s Sound Collection. If you aren’t authorised to use the music, you cannot add it to subscriber-only content.
How to add Instagram Subscriptions
If you are able to see the Subscriptions section appear when on your professional dashboard, this means you’re able to activate it. You can set your own monthly price. You also have the ability to change this fee at any stage.
If you decide, as you grow, you want more money, you can up your cost. However, those already subscribed will not start to pay more. Instead, they will stick at the original subscription cost and anyone new will pay the increased fee.
