Deezer has introduced a new AI playlist feature. Becoming the latest music streaming service to do so. Announced on Monday, this feature, called “Playlist with AI,” allows a select group of paid users to create custom playlists using text prompts.

This launch follows Spotify and Amazon Music, which began testing AI-generated personalised playlists earlier this year. YouTube is also experimenting with a prompt-based AI radio feature. Only time will tell as to which one proves to be more successful.

Deezer plans to give 5% of its paying subscribers access to the beta version of this feature. Users can create playlists based on written prompts that specify moods, genres, decades, activities, and more. There are many ways you can use this AI tool.

For example, you might ask Deezer to generate an early 2000s pop-rock playlist for a workout. Or a 2010s feel-good playlist for studying. The app ensures that all prompts are free from hate speech, dangerous content, sexually explicit material, or harassment before creating a playlist.

“We’re excited to bring this AI-powered feature to Deezer users around the world,” said Alexandra Leloup, VP of Product at Deezer, in a press release. Deezer seem excited to have caught up with the work of their rival music stores.

“Whether you need the perfect soundtrack for a workout, a romantic evening, or a nostalgic trip down memory lane, our Playlist with AI feature will curate a new musical experience within seconds and offers endless possibilities to discover new music easily.”

Deezer has been using AI to improve recommendations and enhance the user experience on its platform. Its signature feature, Flow, utilizes AI to create mixes based on moods and genres. Additionally, Deezer’s Song Catcher, similar to Shazam, uses AI to identify songs.

The company has not yet announced when the Playlist with AI beta will be available to more users. For now, it’s being tested. Once it has been approved, we can expect more users will be able to start using it, however there is no timeframe for this.
