Instagram supply information from your account to Threads. This information is provided when you created a Threads account.
When you set up a Threads account, the platform will pull information from your Instagram account. This is because the two platforms are connected. In the same way, Instagram and Facebook can pull information from each other because they’re all under the Meta umbrella.
Your name, email address and even your Instagram followers can all be pulled across from one platform to the other. Threads often use this information to personalise your experience and improve your use of the platform. Essentially, it cuts out you having to set up a new profile.
The information you provide to Instagram will be used in line with Meta’s Privacy Policy, as well as Threads Supplemental Privacy Policy. By signing up to Threads, you will be giving the platform permission to use your Instagram information.
Threads will use the following:
- Your Instagram log in
- Instagram account ID
- The name and username from your Instagram
- All Instagram followers on your account
- Your Instagram profile information (bio, links, profile pictures etc)
- Accounts you follow
- Your age provided to Instagram
- Your account status – relating to intellectual property violations and instances of going against Instagram’s Community Guidelines
All information surrounding your Threads account will be processed alongside Meta’s Privacy Policy and this will not be breached. You can check your information at any time if you feel something has been incorrectly shared.
Having multiple platforms join together makes the role of a content creator much easier. As you’re already likely aware, you can cross-post between the platforms. This, along with your account’s connection, makes for a smoother experience.
