With the huge spike in people using social media as a way to earn income, there is a concern that authenticity has been lost. People are chasing followers and likes because that’s what brings the money, but, they should really be focusing on building relationships with their followers.

It’s understandable that content creators want large followings. After all, that’s how they earn money, and continue to grow. However, often many lose sight of how they got their in the first place. They’re too busy trying to stretch themselves over multiple platforms that they no longer appreciate the community behind them.
Often creators start on one platform, and very quickly spread themselves across multiple with the same content being shared across them all. This seems smart because it’s the same level of effort but potentially a much wider audience, however, there are drawbacks to this concept.
Viewers on one platform don’t want to see the same videos on other platforms. They want variety. You therefore need different followers on different platforms. This isn’t an easy task because you have to grow your name on not just one platform, but each one you’re using. This takes time. Each platform needs commitment.
Creators often don’t have the time to dedicate to ensure each of their accounts is reaching its full potential. They rely on their audience liking them and wanting to support them across every platform. But, if you aren’t willing to form a community with your audience, you can’t expect them to blindly follow you everywhere.
In the beginning it is far more important to focus on one platform and grow a community. Engage with your viewers and support them where they support you. Over time, as you grow, you can consider making accounts elsewhere, and the views will bring themselves. Your audience will support the same video on two sites if they have that connection with you.
