Spotify has just launched a Spotify for Authors hub, which has been designed for audiobook creators and publishers as a place to access their analytics and data.
Streaming giants, Spotify, have seen a huge increase in interest over audiobooks since first introducing them. Now, they’re sat at a staggering 300,000 titles and they’re still growing their catalogue. Their audiobooks have proven to be an extremely popular feature.
To celebrate this, Spotify have introduced a hub which will benefit the creators and authors behind these titles. It will mimic Spotify for Artists and Spotify for Creators by offering tools and data to help maximise streams.
Not only will Spotify provide unique insights that their competitors don’t, but they will also offer them the tools they need to promote their work, and grow their audience. The platform has been designed to support any author or publisher.
You don’t need to be a world renowned author to access these tools. Instead, Spotify want to push all authors and publishers to better their reach. The features will likely expand over time as Spotify learn more about what these individuals want from the toolset.
How Spotify for Authors will benefit publishers
The streaming platform has announced they’ve worked closely with publishers to understand what they actually require from a service. This is insightful, as often platforms will act on creator’s behalf without actually asking them what they want.
Currently, already offered within a toolkit called Passport, Spotify’s royalty reporting and catalogue management tools will be transferred to Spotify for Authors. These tools will help publishers get a better understanding of their audience and how they listen to content.
How Spotify for Authors will benefit authors
Authors will have access to “industry-leading insights” which include growth and promotional tools. These will help authors grow their listener base, or so Spotify suggest. They say authors will learn information like the age, and gender of their audience. Or at least an average.
This might help authors change the way they market their content. They’ll offer redemption codes which will allow authors to share royalty-free copies of their titles with reviewers, superfans and collaborators. All adding to the growth.
How can authors and publishers expand their audience?
Spotify suggests the more informed an author or publisher is, the more they’ll be able to use this knowledge to their advantage. They can see the demographic of their current audience, and also have access to information like the genre of podcasts their audience enjoy.
Spotify intends to continue to update this service throughout 2025. Providing they listen to the feedback from those using the service, there’s no reason why they can’t continue to add new features. Another step in the right direction for Spotify.
