Discover new music through your friends with an app called Disco

There’s an app which allows you to find and discuss music with your friends. You can even make new friends by sharing music tastes, all through the app Disco. It’s a social media app, with music in mind.

It’s not the first social media platform that’s been created recently with a new angle in mind. We haven’t long had Threads, and fellow X rivals. But, Disco is something different entirely. This is a social media platform that puts music at the heart of everything.

Disco allows users to follow their friends and share their favourite tracks. Users can discover what their friends are listening to and respond with their favourite artists too. The startup has created quite the bit of interest, securing £122.2k in funding. Its goal was only, ever, £100k.

Darren Westlake, the co-founder of the business crowdfunding platform, Crowdcube has gone on to create Disco. Through his knowledge of funding, he managed to create a campaign that was unique to the music app itself. His pitch reveals ways Disco plans to earn money.

It’s said money will be earned through affiliate revenue on tickets and merchandise that is sold through Disco. There will also be Premium subscription plans available. However, while this all sounds great, there are a few issues. There is already a music platform called Disco.

This platform is used within the world of music syncing, allowing listeners to find and share music. Also, an obvious one… do we need more music platforms? After all, Spotify and similar have already made various ways of sharing songs with friends.

Spotify users can create joint, collaborative playlists. Artists can sell tickets and merchandise directly through the music platform. Therefore, what purpose does Disco have? How does it stand out in an already oversaturated market? Only time will tell.
