YouTube Premium Lite has now launched (again). This time, for $7.99/month, US users can access an ad-free service. However, not all videos are included within this. Music videos and Shorts will still have adverts on the Lite version.

Currently, the subscription option is being piloted within the United States, however, we expect to see it rolled out to other countries shortly. It costs around half as much as a full Premium subscription, which is set at $13.99.

This is great for those who watch a lot of video content but don’t have the funds to subscribe to the full Premium option. If you’re not someone who watches Shorts regularly, or cares for music videos, then the Lite option is probably perfect for you.

YouTube Music is removed from Lite. You’ll see adverts on the app and within music videos. You won’t be able to download videos or music to use offline, either. Likewise, background play isn’t available on Lite.

So, this new option is really just for those who perhaps watch a lot of video content and don’t want to be interrupted by adverts. Other than that, it doesn’t really offer too many benefits. But, if you want to give it a go, you soon will be able to.
