YouTube are testing a new subscription tier called Premium Lite which will remove adverts from most videos within the platform. Users within the US, Australia, Germany and Thailand will have access to this option first.

Later, other countries will see expansion into their region. At this current time, it’s likely YouTube will be relying on feedback in the form of subscription numbers, and the amount of individuals staying subscribed after a period of time.

It’s not yet been revealed how much the tier will cost, but it will be less than a standard YouTube subscription which could encourage those who aren’t able to justify the full cost. Music videos won’t be ad-free and it’s important to be aware of that before upgrading.

As part of our commitment to provide our users with more choice and flexibility, we’ve been testing a new YouTube Premium offering with most videos ad-free in several of our markets.

YouTube have previously tried something similar. They had a Premium Lite option before, but they shut it down in September 2023, likely due to lack of interest. In the autumn of 2024, they started working on a revamped version.
