Shazam updates improve Spotify and Apple Music syncing

Shazam updates improve Spotify and Apple Music syncing. Lots of Shazam logos in lines.

Back in 2018, Apple purchased Shazam. They saw the potential in it, as it had been a quickly growing platform for quite some time. They have now made some updates to it, ensuring it’s a tool people can use even if they aren’t Apple Music users.

You’d think they’d want to gatekeep. Since purchasing, Apple could have made Shazam for Apple Music users only. We wouldn’t be surprised if they had, either. It’s something the tech giants would do. After all, there has been a lot of backlash over their app store.

Apple have been found to be unfairly charging app owners for being part of the app store, especially when it comes to in-app purchases. But, on this occasion, they have thought of the users while making their latest changes.

The new version, 18.9 will see an option to add songs that have been tagged from outside the app, onto playlists within both Apple Music and Spotify. This means, when you use Siri, the Control Centre or Shortcuts to Shazam a song, it will be placed into your music library.

You’ll find a playlist in your account called “My Shazam Tracks” and it will contain any songs you’ve discovered from the platform. If you’re currently using Spotify, you might find you need to close it and reopen it to see the refreshed list.

It’s a handy feature to have. Previously, users would Shazam a song, then head onto their streaming stores to look up the song and save it to their preferred playlist. Now, the app does everything for you.
