Spotify recently made changes to their pre-save structure which will affect Lifetime Saves. They now require a more regular connection from the fans themselves.
Previously, Spotify would allow fans to remain connected to an artist’s account forever. Once they had authorized the connection, they’d be able to stay connected. They wouldn’t need to reconnect at any stage which made it a great feature for loyal fans to avoid missing any new music.
This is how our Lifetime Saves, also known as Forever Saves were able to operate so easily. Fans save once and each new release then gets saved into their account automatically when it launches. However Spotify recently underwent an update.
Spotify’s changes
Spotify’s changes mean that fans must reconnect every 6 months. This isn’t something that is unique to one single forever save provider. It’s something affecting all providers as it’s a universal update. Every device connecting to Spotify will have to renew their connection.
Beforehand, once a fan gave us permission to save your music to their library, we’d have their permission forever. It was a one time agreement that lasted forever. Whereas now, every 6 months our permission runs out.
How PUSH.fm is handling these changes
We’re trying to take most of the workflow out of this where we can. This means, as an artist, you won’t have any extra work. You will still create your Lifetime Save as normal, and we will ensure your fans are reminded to reconnect when it’s time.
We will send an email to each of your fans when relevant after the 6 months, encouraging them to reconnect with a single tap. This should remove any stress from you as the artist, allowing you to focus solely on your music.
A positive spin on the Spotify changes
We’re trying to find the silver linings, and a positive way to look at this change is, your fans are being reminded about your music. Often, once a release has had its initial hype, this slows down and your would could get overlooked.
By us emailing your fans after 6 months, you don’t even need to have released anything new for us to put you back on their radar. Think of our emails as a friendly reminder every half a year. Letting your fans know they should go stream your tracks again!
