For businesses and creators, maintaining a consistent presence on social media often requires meticulous planning.
Instagram now allows users to schedule reels, photos, and carousel posts directly within the mobile app, helping teams save time and stay organised without relying on third-party software. Here is a guide on how to navigate the scheduling process through the Instagram mobile experience.
Before you begin
It is important to note that these steps apply specifically to the Instagram mobile app. Additionally, certain advanced features—such as product tagging, collaborative posts, sponsored content, and fundraisers—are currently incompatible with scheduled posts.
How to schedule a post or reel
To begin planning your content in advance, follow these steps:
- Open the Instagram app and tap Create, then select Post or Reel.
- Choose your photo or video and tap Next. At this stage, you can add your caption, effects, and filters as usual.
- Navigate to the bottom of the screen and tap Advanced settings (iOS) or More options (Android).
- Toggle the switch next to Schedule this post.
- Select your desired date and time. You can schedule content up to 75 days in advance.
- Tap Done, then tap the back button.
- Finally, tap Schedule to confirm your post.
Managing your scheduled content
If you need to adjust your strategy, there are two primary ways to view and edit your upcoming posts.
1. From your profile menu
- Navigate to your Instagram profile.
- Tap the Menu icon (three horizontal lines) in the top right-hand corner and select Scheduled content.
- Tap Options next to the specific post or reel.
- From here, you can choose to Reschedule, Share now, or Delete the item.
2. From the create tool
- Tap Create and select Post or Reel.
- Tap Scheduled to view a list of your pending content.
- Select the post or reel you wish to change.
- Tap Options to access the reschedule, share, or delete functions.
By utilising these native tools, creators can ensure their content reaches audiences at peak engagement times, even when they are away from their phones.
