Originating in Sweden, Spotify has grown to be a worldwide, household name. However, despite this, its home country has only just got their hands on the audiobooks feature, along with 4 other European countries.

Spotify continues to grow across multiple markets, and with that, certain features also expand. They’re now officially bringing audiobooks to five more European markets, one being their home country, Sweden.
You’ll also find audiobooks in Denmark, Finland, Iceland and Monaco. Listeners will only get 12 free hours of audiobooks per month, however, just like in other regions, they can add extra hours on in slots of 10 hours.
This option is only for those who are on Spotify’s premium subscription. However, free users can purchase audiobooks to listen to in full. In the UK, US and Canada, Premium accounts come with 15 hours of content to listen to. It depends on publishing deals.
Within the Nordic countries, Spotify has said listeners can now access 300,000 audiobooks, which is the largest English-language catalogue across that region. Based on data from Bloomberg recently, it shows audiobook listening has grown by 36% over the past year.
This is based upon English listening markets. More than half of Spotify’s audiobook listeners are between 18 and 34 which shows the growing interest to read while on the go. It opens doors for those who might otherwise have been shut out.
