Instagram is streamlining its platform by removing less popular features, aiming to create a more user-friendly experience. One of the latest changes is the removal of text notes on feed posts and Reels, a feature that never gained widespread adoption.
Why is Instagram removing text notes?
Instagram introduced text notes on posts and Reels in July, inspired by the success of DM notes, particularly among younger users. However, the feature failed to take off. Instead of letting it sit unused, Instagram has decided to cut it entirely to prevent clutter.
“We launched it a few months ago in an effort to try to make Instagram more social and more fun, [but] in practice, it just wasn’t adopted by that many people. We know Instagram has become too complicated over the years, and one of the ways we want to address that is by being willing to turn off features that aren’t used by enough, or that many people.”

This means that while notes in DMs will remain, the ability to add text notes to feed posts and Reels is being phased out.
