If you’ve ever noticed volume changes when you switch from track to track, you’ll know just how useful YouTube Music’s new consistent volume feature will be.

Back in October 2023, YouTube introduced stable volume. This feature meant that volume would stay the same through each video you watched. We’ve all experienced extreme volume change unexpectedly before. It can be triggering for some.
Imagine, you’re trying to relax with your headphones on and a video is pretty quiet so you turn the volume up, only to then be met with extreme volume. It’s quite alarming and can ruin the experience, which is why YouTube introduced an option to stabilise the volume.
Now, YouTube Music are following this lead. They’ve seen the feature’s success and are introducing a similar one to their music app. For both iOS and Android users. This feature will be called consistent volume and will keep the noise levels stable throughout.
YouTube Music users have requested this for quite some time. In the main YouTube app, the option can be turned on or off, but in YouTube Music, you’ll need to go to your settings to adjust the feature. It could prevent hearing damage.

The option for YouTube Music can be found by going to Settings > Playback on Android or Settings > Playback & restrictions on iOS. The option isn’t yet available on the web browser, but perhaps it will be over time. Many platforms are working on similar.
Apple, for example, have added a similar option on iOS 8.15. It protects the user by ensuring they aren’t listening to music at a damaging volume. Perhaps more companies will go this way. Hopefully Spotify and Apple Music will add this next.
