iHeartRadio has had an update. This is the first time their app has had a redesign in 13 years. They’ve had updates here and there, but never have they had a complete redesign. Well, not since 2011 anyway. This will mean big changes for mobile users.
The change has been referred to as the ‘next-generation’ mobile app. iHeartMedia is a US radio and streaming platform. The company has been going since 1972 when the radio station first launched. Since then, they’ve moved with the times.
It started as Media Holdings Inc and then changed in 2014 to iHeartMedia. In 2008 iHeartRadio launched, which is an umbrella brand for the radio network. So, the company has proven how well it can keep up. Especially against big competitors.
The last update the platform got was in 2011 which is the same year Spotify launched in the US. This new update has been a long time coming. It’s been said the latest changes will bridge a gap between the current car radio service, and mobile music streaming.
Some improvements include a car dashboard view where users can find their favourite stations, playlists and podcasts. They can scan a button and find new radio stations. There’s also a live radio dial, and a trending podcast and playlist section.
Updating the app has probably encouraged more users to come back to the platform. Since there have been no updates in over a decade, iHeartRadio has a long way to go to compete with the likes of Spotify, considering they’re always adding new features.
