OpenAI is currently working on a tool that would allow individuals to create songs using text and audio prompts. A step towards everyone being able to create music, is that fair?
OpenAI is currently interested in creating a music platform, allowing people to create songs easily, with no real music background. You could argue this is unfair on musicians who have spent years honing their craft.
However, others will argue, that it just allows people to have a bit of creative freedom and there will always be space for genuine music artists and their raw talents and crafts. Perhaps there could be a balance between the two.
The OpenAI tool is looking at developing something to create music easily. By just using text or audio prompts, you would be able to make something different. They have been working with students from The Juilliard School creating training data.
They’re hopeful the platform could be used to make a guitar backing track to accompany a music artist’s vocals. The idea is to enhance creators work and to make it easier to share your talent. This would be great for those who don’t have a band, or people to collab with.
The students working with the product have been annotating music scores, which will then be used to train the AI. Suno, and ElevenLabs are two other startups who have been developing similar tools. Watch this space, it seems…
