Whether you’re commuting, cooking, or chilling out, there’s nothing more frustrating than Spotify not working the way it should. From buffering songs to login issues, we’ve heard it all—and we’re here to help.

Here are the ten most common Spotify problems users encounter, along with easy solutions so you can get back to your music faster.
1. Spotify app won’t open or keeps crashing
The fix: Try a clean reinstallation. Delete the app, restart your device, and download the latest version from your app store. Ensure your operating system is up-to-date.
2. Music won’t play or keeps skipping
The fix: Check your internet connection and switch between WiFi and mobile data. Also, try toggling ‘Offline mode’ on and off in settings. If the problem continues, a reinstallation often helps.
3. Can’t download songs for offline listening
The fix: Make sure you have enough storage on your device (at least 1GB free is recommended). Also, confirm you’re logged into a Premium account—offline listening is a Premium feature.
4. Login issues or “something went wrong” messages
The fix: Reset your password via the Spotify website, and make sure you’re using the correct login method (e.g. email, Facebook, Apple ID). Clear your cache if the app still won’t load.
5. Spotify plays through the wrong device
The fix: Use the ‘Connect to a device’ button to manually select where you want to play your music. If the list isn’t updating, refresh your network or log out and back in.
6. Playlists missing or not updating
The fix: Try logging out and back in to sync your account properly. If you’re following collaborative playlists, ensure you’re still a collaborator. You can also refresh the app by dragging down in your library.
7. Spotify won’t connect to Bluetooth or smart speakers
The fix: Forget the device in your Bluetooth settings and re-pair it. Make sure your speaker or smart device (like Alexa or Google Home) has the latest firmware and is linked correctly via Spotify Connect.
8. Shuffle or repeat not working
The fix: Ensure the icons for shuffle and repeat are selected (green). If you’re on the free tier, shuffle play may be enforced in some playlists—upgrading to Premium unlocks full control.
9. Loud ads or volume changes suddenly
The fix: On mobile, disable ‘Audio normalisation’ in Settings > Playback. You can also enable ‘Volume level – Normal’ to smooth out loudness between tracks.
10. My Wrapped, Blend, or podcast isn’t working
The fix: These features often depend on up-to-date data and a strong connection. Try clearing cache, restarting the app, or checking if the feature is available in your region or on your device type.
