Facebook recently announced the switch from videos and Reels to just having the latter option. The thought behind this is no longer will users need to make a choice, instead, it will be made for them potentially making it easier.

However, our advice now would be to watch how you record content for Facebook. If that’s its intended use, ensure you’re recording content in portrait mode, otherwise it doesn’t make for a great viewer experience.

“In the coming months, all videos on Facebook will be shared as reels, eliminating the need to choose between uploading a video or Reel. Reels on Facebook will also not have any length or format restrictions.”

YouTube

Previously, when uploading a video, you’d have to select Reel during the upload process. Now, it will be automatically classed as a Reel. Livestream is, however, the one exception. This will still remain in its own category.

Live video can still display within the Reels feed, but the two will still be different categories rather than combined. Due to the change, all metrics will be combined. Any previously uploaded video content will come under the Reels metrics.
