Instagram allow users to change their usernames whenever they require. It’s easy to do, but you are capped at a maximum of twice within a 14-day period.
How to update your Instagram username
- Head to your Instagram account.
- Click on your profile picture in the bottom left.
- Choose Edit profile.
- Type your information and click Submit.
If you have a large following, Instagram will review your change before it can be updated. This could take a few days, so consider this when initially choosing your username. You will be notified when Instagram complete their review.
Those without a large following will be able to see the instant change of their username update. As soon as you hit save, it will change. Some accounts may find their followers are informed of their name change. Again, this tends to be for accounts with larger followings.
How often can you change your Instagram handle?
Your Instagram username can only be changed twice per month. We’d always suggest avoiding updating it unless you have to. The more you change it, the more you confuse your followers. Many will unfollow account names they do not recognise.
If you’re constantly changing your username, Instagram could get involved and start to question why. They may consider you a dangerous account trying to confuse both them and your followers by constantly changing your name.
For safety reasons, Instagram allow two account changes per every 14-day period. So, if you change your account today, you can change your username once more within the next two weeks. This is quite lenient.
