Following a pilot phase, YouTube’s new likeness-detection technology has now rolled out to their platform. This will allow content creators within the YPP to request AI content that shows a likeness to themselves, is removed.

This is the first introduction, however, the platform plan to continue to roll the feature out to more and more eligible creators. Those who are currently eligible will have already received an email.

YouTube’s detection will help identify when AI-generated content features a creator’s face and voice. Obviously, larger creators certainly won’t want content potentially ruining their image. After all, you can’t control what is said using AI.

It could damage someone’s reputation, as often, AI is extremely believable. Creators can’t possibly find all videos using their image by themselves, so having technology that can flag it will be extremely useful to protect their identity.

To review any content made using your face or voice, you need to go to your Likeness tab within your channel. From here, you can consent to data processing and then use your smartphone to scan a QR shown.

It will direct you to a page where you will need to verify who you are using a form of photo ID and a short video. Once you have been granted access, you can view all content using your likeness and submit a removal request if you wish for something to be erased.

Alternatively, you can request copyright. There’s an option to even archive the video. It gives you control back over how your identity is being used, which AI sort of took away from those in the public eye.
