Spotify updates will allow listeners to inform the platform of artists they dislike, so they won’t be suggested during your Discover Weekly playlist. Allowing more room for your favourite artists and potential new faves.

For the past decade, we’ve had access to Spotify’s Discover Weekly playlists. The idea is, the music platform will take inspiration from your listening habits and suggest tracks and artists that you might enjoy. Obviously, it isn’t always right.
However, thousands of artists have been discovered this way. It’s usually pretty accurate. The music platform is adding a way to help the algorithm work its magic. Listeners will be able to guide the suggestions by adding their likes and dislikes.
It’s said the feature is biased towards lesser known artists. Therefore, it can be a great tool for discovery and getting your artist name heard. Over 100 billion new tracks have been discovered, and 77% of these are from smaller artists.
An area currently lacking with discovery is when a music taste is evolving. If the platform is suggesting pop because this is what you normally listen to, it might not spot your new like for indie, for example. However, by encouraging the direction, you have more control.
The new support is only for premium users. You might need to update your app to be able to access it. If this is something you’d find useful, but you’re on a free account, it might be time to give their premium subscription a go.
