The two work together and are part of the same umbrella, but aren’t the same platform, nor do they have the same audience. So, what are the differences? How to tell iTunes and Apple Music apart?

iTunes and Apple Music are similar companies under the same brand, however there are some distinct differences. Knowing which one is right for you is important. Otherwise, the two platforms side by side can become overwhelming.
iTunes
iTunes is a platform where users can purchase various media types. It’s a media player, as well as a media library, and mobile management platform. Users can purchase music which can then be stored across all synced devices.
Originally, iTunes was the one platform for syncing an iPhone. When you first got a new device, you’d need to plug it into a PC to set it up. Any music you wanted on the device would need to be purchase and uploaded through iTunes.
Now, there are various music apps available so this is no longer neccesary. Instead, iTunes is a place where you can buy e-books, films, and music. It can be stored seperatly to Apple Music which is more of an on-the-go ever-changing platform.
Apple Music
Apple Music is a streaming platform. It allows music listeners to stream on the go. It’s a music subscription, so listeners pay a monthly fee to hear unlimited tracks rather than owning a copy of the song via download.
Through an Apple Music subscription, listeners can explore a huge library. It allows music and video streaming. Users can stream to any of their devices on demand and can create playlists with their preferred tracks.
Apple Music is a little more conveinent for on the go listening. It’s an app that is only a tap away and you can discover new artists, genres and playlists with just a few clicks. With AI technology, you’ll have sugestions made based on your listening habits.
The confusion comes when listeners are trying to manage their music. On a PC, users will need to find iTunes to be able to manage their Apple Music catalogues. All saved Apple Music tracks will be placed within iTunes. However, there is an Apple Music section within iTunes.
