Music genre taste must be changing. For the first time in 35 years, rap has no place within the billboards. At one point, Kendrick and SZA’s song luther was first place within the charts. It spent 13 weeks in total at number 1.

In fact, the song had 46 weeks of being within the charts all together. Now, it seems fewer people are listening to it and therefore, it’s been unable to keep its place within the rankings. The charts have contained rap music for the past 35 years.

This is quite the shock that genre habits have changed this drastically. Could it be the case that genres are simply merging though, and therefore, elements of rap still exist within other sub-genres, meaning, it hasn’t completely vanished?

Billboard are known for being incredibly strict with their rules, too. If a song falls below position 25 and has been in the charts for more than 26 weeks, they’ll remove it. This is what happened to the track luther. Therefore, it isn’t a case that no one is interested.

It just isn’t performing like it did, but it’s no secret rap in general isn’t either. This is a great time for independent artists and producers to find their way into the charts. By creating something surprising, you could stand a great chance of making your way in.
